Switzerland's 1st Real Skyscraper: Prime-Tower in Zürich 5

The Prime Tower in Zurich shall become the talles building of Switzerland.

OpernTurm Frankfurt

To live in there might offer a nice view and exceptional environment, but it doesn't really seem to be well integrated with the proposed appearance:

This aleardy looks better, but unfortunately it is only a drawing.

Guangzhou TV & Sightseeing Tower (Winning design)

There have been many many proposals for this project. Though one to our right has won the competition (Architect ARUP Qualification).

With its 450 meters the Guangzhou TV & Sightseeing Tower should be finished beginning of 2008.

A large exhibition hall will occupy the first floor while a 3D movie theater of the desert will be situated 95m above the ground level. A prairie garden in the third public floor, 195m above ground level and a tropics quick dining room at 310m. A temperate zone area and a hotel will occupy the fifth floor, 345-350m above ground, while tundra luxurious dining rooms will occupy the sixth floor, 430m above ground level. 450m above ground will a small city square, known as the North Pole Square be. From the roof above the square a antenna will stretch to 610m.

Two other design proposals are below:

This one would have been 1,000 meters tall and would have become the tallest building in the world.

Shape of Eiffel Tower in Seoul?

Supposedly there are plans to erect a tallest building in Seoul, on the Korean peninsula. And it should not be any skyscraper, no, the idea is that the tower will have the shape of the Eiffel Tower. To me it seems as a rather ridiculous idea, besides that it seems more like a project for Disney World or Las Vegas...

Apparently this idea has indeed been replace with a more original design. The project in the middle is now the most favored, though there are problems with the Korean air force.

Waterview Tower (Chicago)

Under the slogan "Elegance reaches new heights" the Waterview Tower will be constructed as a 5-star residential and hotel building. Next to condominiums the Waterview tower will also offer the new SHANGRI-LA hotel in Chicago.

Why the name Waterview was chosen? Magnificent views of the Chicago River and the Lake Michigan are provided.

1st Skyscraper for Bulgaria

Maybe I should start small... i.e. not well known but actually as important as all the hugely commercialized projects across the world.

This one I just stumbled across per coincidence. There are three architects who compete for this project. If this is the one that will make it further than just on some fancy picture board?

According to the newpaper 24 Chassa, the new 35-floor building will be constructed near the Kempinski Hotel Zografski.

First project executed without municipality participation
Estimated Investments: 45 million Euros
Company in charge of the construction: Joint Building Investment
32,000 sqm of building area
Helicopter landing place
Underground parking for 870 vehivles

Additioanlly, the surounding area will be renovated as well to match the prestigious impression: 13 million Euros will be invested to transform the Cherni Vruh Boulevard into a new park.

BOA Tower

Although having lived in NYC until the end of 2005, there is one building that just recently has caught my attention: The Bank of America building.

It is budgeted at $1 billion and should be completed by 2008. Now, why would I take some of my valuable time to post something on this building? The Bank of America tower is part of green design in architecture, meaning that standards set by the so called Green Building Council are followed.

The BOA tower will serve Manhattan as a gigantic air filter. It wil suck in the dirty air from the city, clean it and send it back out cleaner.

Other Green Towers in New York City are
- The newly completed HEARST TOWER close to the Time Warner Building on the south west corner of CP
- The FREEDOM TOWERS, which are now finally in construction
- The NEW YORK TIMES Building
- GOLDMAN SACHS' New World Headquarters, which will combine the employees of 10 now existiing buildings
- Memorial SLOAN-KETTERING Cancer Center
- The VERDESIAN
- Tribeca Green
- One River Terrace
- The MOSAIC
- 7 WTC
- W 31st Street
- MILLENIUM Tower (Residences)
- The HELENA
- The SOLAIRE

Very first post...

I believe that most of us, if not everybody, as a certain fascination about skyscapers. This can obviously be based either on a positive or negative attitude.
There have been post 9/11 voices that tried to predict the death of new skyscrapers, in particular taller and more daring ones. However, those constructions seem to be more alive than ever: After the history of skyscrapers took off in Chicago, we see today even more impressive and venturous projects than ever being planned or already being in process in cities as Dubai or Shanghai.
But there are many other projects that have not yet caught the same attention as the towers being part of the "being-the-tallest" competition. Those other project are sometimes at least as revolutionary, just from another viewpoint.

I hope to keep it up with new postings, as time is scarce - maybe sometimes some patience will be needed.
